About The Role

We are recruiting for an Apprentice Mechanical Engineer to join the Springs team within Unit 6.

Reporting into the Components Engineering & Technical Manager, The Apprentice Mechanical Engineer will learn from an experienced, qualified mechanical engineer whilst supporting the team to ensure the smooth running and operation of our manufacturing plant.

Shift pattern:

Days: Monday - Thursday 06:00-14:00. Friday 06:00 – 13:00

PM: Monday - Thursday 14:00-22:00. Friday 13:00 - 20:00

The Apprentice Mechanical Engineer will undertake and complete an advance apprenticeship in  mechanical maintenance engineering with an outside provider.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside a skilled Mechanical Engineer
  • Assist with maintaining existing plant equipment, through reactive and planned maintenance.
  • Fault finding and carrying out repairs during breakdowns.
  • Assist with modifications of current machinery.
  • Assist with new installations of machinery.
  • Completion of all apprenticeship paperwork, modules and learning programs both internal and external.

During the Apprenticeship, you will learn to:

  • carry out planned, unplanned and preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical plant and equipment
  • position, assemble, install and dismantle mechanical plant and equipment
  • replace, repair or remove components in mechanical plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition
  • diagnose and determine the cause of faults in mechanical plant and equipment
  • The relevant engineering theories and principles relative to their occupation

About You

Skills & Experience required:

  • Minimum GCSE STEM subjects (Grade C/5 above or equivalent) – Willing to undertake competency exam if not achieved.
  • Willingness to learn is key
  • Ability to self-manage your time during the working day and to work independently
  • Inquisitive and methodical
